Why Should I Contact The University Ombudsman Office?

Since 1969, the University Ombudsman Office has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience on ways to work successfully to help resolve problems within and through SIUC’s complex structure.  It is the responsibility of the office to make that knowledge and experience available to individuals to enable them to resolve their own problems.

Sometimes you may not know to whom you should speak or what options exist.  Talk first to the ombudsman to confidentially discuss your situation and explore possible alternatives.

When Should I Contact The University Ombudsman Office?

Many problems can be handled through normal channels.  Department heads, deans, supervisors, or others who have specific areas of responsibility should be consulted when a problem first arises.  If, after making an effort on your own, you still need information or assistance to help resolve a problem with the university, you can contact the University Ombudsman Office.

Who May Use The University Ombudsman Office?

Any member of the university community (students, faculty, staff) or members of the larger community may ask for information or advice on university-related matters or seek help with a complaint against the university.  The office may also investigate problems and concerns on its own initiative.
